As we quickly slide from Spring to Summer, many events are starting to take place. From weddings to a backyard bar-be-que, the warm weather is a time for hanging out with friends and family. But the warm weather also means shorts, and for those with varicose or spider veins, the warm weather may also bring embarrassment. Don’t let your veins hold you back from enjoying the Summer sun and all the events you celebrate. Vein treatment is available to address your specific conditions, but it is important to know how these treatments work and will impact your health to make sure you schedule your treatments with enough time for your legs to fully heal before you want to show them off!
Multiple Procedures Offered
The first visit is always a consultation with Dr. Perlmutter to assess your veins and diagnose your condition. This way, specific treatments can be recommended to ensure you receive desired results. Spider veins and varicose veins appear when veins are broken, which can be a symptom of vein disease, a chronic condition that causes the vein valves to break and create venous hypertension in the legs. While also addressing your visible spider and varicose veins, your vein care specialist will also assess the cause of these broken veins.
Many patients seek immediate treatment for varicose and spider veins, but by taking the time to analyze your condition, we can address the root cause of your broken and damaged veins to stop them from reappearing and offer the best procedures that work for you.
Endovenous Laser Therapy
Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) is a minimally invasive treatment used to reduce chronic venous hypertension and the effects of varicose veins. This procedure only takes one small incision in the leg and is conducted on average in under an hour.
VenaSeal™ Closure System
The VenaSeal™ closure system is used for treating varicose veins by closing off damaged veins and redirecting blood flow, and, over time, reducing the appearance of the veins on the skin. The procedure typically takes only 30 to 40 minutes and is up to 98.9% effective!
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy addresses non-functioning superficial and deep varicose and spider veins, closing them off via injection.
Other Conditions We Treat
We also treat conditions that also appear as a result of vein diseases, such as venous ulcers, edema, lymphedema, and deep vein thrombosis.
Venous ulcers are external wounds that most commonly appear around the lower legs and ankles and are caused by damage to the valves that control the pressure inside the veins. In most cases, the cause of venous ulcers is chronic venous hypertension.
Edema is a condition where excess fluid in the body tissue causes swelling. Although this condition is often associated with the legs and feet, edema can affect any part of the body, including your hands, ankles, and arms.
Lymphedema is a condition where improperly working lymph nodes create swelling in the lower legs and ankles. We use compression therapy, pneumatic pumps, and, in some cases manual lymph massage to help fluid move better in the lymph nodes thus decreasing swelling and edema in the lower legs.
Deep vein thrombosis is a condition in which blood clots in the deep veins can break free and potentially can cause a pulmonary embolism, a life-threatening blood clot in the lung. Dr. Perlmutter may recommend anti-clotting medication and support stockings to combat the formation of any new blood clots in your leg(s). Many of these conditions are symptoms of chronic venous hypertension or vein disease, by treating the source of these conditions it ensures that they do not return after being treated.
